Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
St. Clare School Family News | 3 May 2020
Come! Live in the Light!
You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned?
It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
You are the light of the world.
A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket;
it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.
~ Matthew 5:13-16
Dear St. Clare School Families,
May began with the Class of 2020 leading us in the May Crowning prayer service. It was a beautiful and touching prayer experience to see over 120 devices tuned in to see our honor guard (students from TK-7) and our 8th grade Coronation Court with Niamh Regan being selected to crown Mary. Niamh was a Student Council secretary during her 7th grade year and continues to serve as Student Council vice president. She, along with her Student Council officers and commissioners have been instrumental in bringing us our daily Morning Announcements. We are so grateful to them for anchoring our day, honoring our country and praying together in community.
We thank Ms. McCormick, the Class of 2020, the teachers and the parents who sent us the beautiful photos of our students in their Sunday best carrying flowers for Mary. It was a unique and powerful testament that we may be socially distant, but we are spiritually connected. Thank you, all!
VIRTUAL OPEN HOUSE THIS WEEK | Thursday, May 7 | 11:45 A.M. via Zoom
Ms. Cherell and her crew are busy preparing for our first ever VIRTUAL OPEN HOUSE on Thursday May 7 from 11:45 A.M. to 12:45 P.M. Please join us and share the link to family and friends who would like to check out the programs we have at St. Clare School. School administration, office staff and Ms. Payton will be there to answer any questions. Ms. Cherell and Mr. Kyle are putting the finishing touches to a Virtual Tour. We hope you can join us and we hope you will share the link Ms. Cherell provided in her post. You can also direct Nextdoor and other social media followers to our Facebook EVENTS page to sign up to receive the Zoom link. Help us share the good news that is St. Clare!
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK AND TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY
Monday begins Teacher Appreciation Week with some “activities” suggested by your PTG Room Reps. Show your teachers some love (classroom teachers, home learning teachers--mom, dad, caregivers, aunties/uncles, grandmas/grandpas, brothers/sisters) for they have been working hard to make sure students continue to learn. Teacher Appreciation Day is celebrated on May 7. See the post from your Room Reps for details.
FIRST SCHOOL MASS A SUCCESS!
Fr. Tad presided over the first St. Clare School Mass on Thursday with over 100 devices present in the school Zoom room and others who watched in LIVE on Facebook.
Stay tuned for Facebook Live Stream Masses on Sundays at 9 A.M. We hope you can join me and the St. Clare community.
A CUP WITH THE PRINCIPAL
Thank you to those who attended “A Cup with the Principal” on Wednesday, April 29 at 5:30 P.M. We addressed questions pertaining to when school might open, what summer or fall might look like and who decides what the path forward might look like. The Department of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of San Jose, with guidance from the Health Department and approved by the Bishop will provide us with directives once the directive becomes clearer. The following health indicators that have been communicated by the Health Department will be determine what our path forward might look like:
Whether the total number of cases in the community is flat or decreasing;
Whether the number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 is flat or decreasing;
Whether there is an adequate supply of personal protective equipment for all health care workers;
Whether we are meeting the need for testing, especially for persons in vulnerable populations or those in high-risk settings or occupations; and
Whether we have the capacity to investigate all COVID-19 cases and trace all of their contacts, isolating those who test positive and quarantining the people who may have been exposed.
Administrators, teachers and parent leadership will gather to consider a variety of scenarios. We will keep you posted on our progress via this forum or future “A Cup with Principal” forums which will become more frequent in the weeks ahead.
In addition, we are finalizing plans to celebrate our very talented Class of 2020 8th Graders as they graduate from their years at St. Clare School. Although many things are dependent upon the easing of restrictions in the next couple of weeks, we will celebrate them virtually on May 29, their original Graduation Day. Stay tuned for more details in the weeks ahead.

SUPPORTING ONE ANOTHER: Virtual CKZ
We have provided a fabulous opportunity for your child to get a brain break or for you to get some time away from supervising a “fun” activity or learning for your students. Have your children join via Zoom to read a book with Sr. Ann Marie, do a fun activity with Ms. Teresea, gather in a Silver Circle with Ms. Valerye and get some homework help and do a fun activity with Mr. Kyle, Mr. Jose and Ms. Aysha. Each Sunday evening, Ms. Valerye will post VCKZ schedule of activities. We offer VCKZ at no additional cost to students in Grades 2-8 daily. Students in TK-1 have opportunities to engage with paraeducators and teachers for “fun” supervised activities during the “school” day.
Mrs. G (Myla Guevarra) continues Parent Education forums for parents to engage in overcoming challenges of working from home while also helping facilitate learning at home for their students. Please join her on Wednesdays at 11 A.M. and Thursdays at 4 P.M. You will find the Zoom ID for these forums in her ParentSquare posts.
Please feel free to gather in small groups to connect, share experiences and find moments of joy and camaraderie. Stay tuned for an opportunity to pray the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary on Thursdays. We hope you and your children can join us to pray one decade a week for the next five weeks. Post to come.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, I would appreciate the opportunity to dialog with you directly. There is no need for you to find someone else to speak for you. I find it very enlightening to hear different perspectives as WE are all in this together. Thank you for trusting that we can engage in this dialog for the good of all our children and families at St. Clare.
For any other questions or inquiries, please contact the school office office@stclareschool.org or 408-246-6797. Ms. Cherell and Ms. Teresea are happy to answer your call and direct you to the appropriate person.
I hope this season of Easter will bring you “hope in the darkest of days and focus in the brightest”.
Peace.
